Starting the Studies

You made a good choice when deciding to head to Finland to study – either for a semester or two or to complete a full degree. We are pleased to welcome you at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK)!

Confirming the Study Place
To confirm the offered study place, you must accept the study place and enroll your attendance by 14 July 2023, 3:00 p.m online at My Studyinfo. If we do not receive your confirmation by the given deadline, you will lose the offered study place. The confirmation is binding.

Note that you can only confirm one study place per academic term. This means that if you have been accepted to several study programs in one application or in several applications, you need to choose which place you wish to confirm. When you have confirmed a study place, all other study programs that you have applied to and that begin during the same academic term will be cancelled automatically.

Read more about the one study place per term provision.

Note also: The students also must enroll attending / non-attending for the academic year at the same time when confirming the study place at My Studyinfo. Those subject to tuition fee, must pay the fee before they are able to enroll.

Life in Finland will be very challenging for a minor student without the parents because of that.
Tuition fee
The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens at KAMK is 6 000 euros per academic year for Bachelor's degree students and 10 000 euros for Master's degree students. There is no tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens or exchange students. The payment for the first year is done at the same time when accepted student confirms his/her study place at KAMK.

Students applying through joint application may take advantage of the early bird scholarship by accepting their study place offer and paying in their tuition fee within two weeks after receiving the letter of acceptance. The early bird scholarship covers 50% to the tuition fee for Bachelor's Degree students and 10 % for Master's Degree students. Early Bird scholarship is directly used to reduce the tuition fee.

The full payment is made at once on KAMK online shop. After successful payment, a receipt will be delivered by email and the condition for the enrollment will be removed. The receipt can be attached to the residence permit application.

The tuition fee for the second year and onwards is paid by 31 May yearly. In addition to the tuition fee, the students must pay for their study materials and for their own living costs.
Postponing the Start of the Studies
As a first year student, it is possible to enroll as non-attending student for the first study year (one semester – full academic year) only for the following legal reasons:
- completion of military service / civilian service in Finland
- your own illness
- maternity / paternity / parental leave.

A certificate must be submitted to the Study Office to confirm the reason of absence by 14 July 2023, 3:00 p.m (Finnish local time).
Original School Certificate
Students must be prepared to present their original school certificates that they used applying for admission (in national language) at the beginning of the studies. The copies will be compared to the original certificates in certain cases. If there are discrepancies between the original certificates and the copies submitted the UAS has the right to cancel the study place of the selected student if the correct information on the original certificate does not consequently entitle the student to a study place at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

Admission to the University of Applied Sciences might be conditional until certificates have been checked and successfully compared with the original certificates

FSHS Medical Services

Starting in 2021, students who study for a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a Finnish University of Applied Sciences are able to use medical services of the Finnish Health Service (FSHS).

The FSHS responsibility is to provide students with health and medical care services, to promote students’ health and ability to study, and to promote the well-being of the study environment and student community.

Students attending a Finnish University of Applied Sciences are required to pay a student healthcare fee to Finnish Social Security Institution (Kela) for each academic term. All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services. Students cannot get an exemption from the student healthcare fee for any any reasons.
Students are not sent invoice for the student healthcare fee and all students must make sure to pay it in OmaKela for each academic term. Due date for the student health care fee is annually 30 September (for autumn semester) and 31 January (for spring semester).
