Measurement and Information Systems

Measurement and information systems research and development activities emphasise sensor to cloud thinking, customer needs initiated working methods and the rapid utilisation of results and data. Our expertise covers the complete information systems chain from measuring to data presentation: 1) the use of sensors and measurement devices, 2) device design and development, 3) measurement technology, 4) data transfer and processing, 5) cloud services and 6) user interfaces.

In customer needs-based device design we offer expertise in electronics planning, hardware programming, and data communications solutions. Our expertise is applicable in a variety of contexts such as wellbeing, health, sports, industry and Internet of Things solutions. To guarantee the best possible results in projects, we often work in close collaboration with game industry and datacentre experts and our partners in cooperation. Our main partners are, among others, the University of Oulu, the Sports Technology Unit of the University of Jyväskylä, VTT MIKES Metrology, and CSC IT Centre for Science.

Metrology Expertise

The metrology group is based on the City of Kajaani’s metrology network, measurepolis, which began its operations as an expertise hub in 2002. Its operations were incorporated under Measurepolis Development Oy (Ltd), owned by the City of Kajaani, in 2009. In 2016, the company merged with Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

The metrology group sets up metrology and measurement technology related research and development initiatives mainly for the benefit of not only companies and research organisations in Kainuu, but also throughout Finland. We carry out research project preparation and seek funding from regional, national and international sources of finance. In addition, we offer our expertise in the form of technology surveys, among others, and seek necessary research and development partners via our networks.
