Core R&D Competences

The purpose of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) research, development and innovation activities is to develop customers’ products, services and processes and to conduct needs-based applied research. KAMK is one of Finland’s best and most successful universities of applied sciences in terms of its results, according to the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The activities of KAMK RDI are founded in robust specialist expertise, well-functioning partnerships and highly skilled expertise in project work. This specialist expertise is based on the solid competence of the staff in their specific disciplines and the innovative approach to everything they do. The second basis of RDI activities at KAMK involves close ties with working life in Kainuu and elsewhere in Finland. RDI’s international partners include partner universities, businesses, and development enterprises in Europe, Russia and Latin America. The third foundation of RDI at KAMK is strong expertise in project work and experience in applying for, managing, evaluating, and reporting joint projects as well as conducting their financial controlling. In joint projects, we are pleased to work as the main partner in implementation.

RDI Services is in charge of RDI activities at KAMK. Approximately 60-70 development projects are implemented each year and they are mainly funded by the EU through various funding programmes. RDI activities form a quarter of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences’ turnover and employee work years.
