Tuition Fees and Scholarships

The tuition fee remains the same throughout the studies.

KAMK uses Flywire to receive payments from international students worldwide.

New students pay the first-year tuition fee when accepting the study place (offer of admission). The tuition fee must be paid fully in one instalment, it cannot be paid in installments. The tuition fee is paid in full even though the student register as non-attending (absent) for the first year.

The tuition fee for second and following academic years is paid per semester but student also may choose to pay the tuition fee for the entire academic year in a single payment. It is not possible to pay the tuition fee in installments. The attendance registration for continuing students in PAKKI will be made by the Study Services after the tuition fee is paid in Flywire.

• Tuition fee for the autumn semester is paid latest by 15 August
• Tuition fee for the spring semester is paid latest by 15 December

Failure to pay the tuition fee within the given deadlines results in the forfeiture of the right to study. Students who do not have a valid right to study cannot
study and complete credits. This means that the student will no longer be able to access their KAMK account, enroll or participate in courses or gain any credits.

Student may apply for the reinstatement of their right to study by submitting an application through the designated online form and paying both the processing fee (€50) and the tuition fee. The right to study can be restored if the student has an existing study right and possibilies to complete theri degree within the remaining period of study right.

Students will receive confirmation of the payment received and their official payment receipt directly from Flywire. KAMK Study Services does not send separate e-mail confirmations about receiving the tuition fee.

Only Students who are required to pay tuition fees are eligible for scholarships.

First year scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree

An Early Bird discount is available for applicants who accept the study place and pay their tuition fee within two weeks (14 days) from the notice of admission. The early bird discount is applicable only for the first year tuition fee. The Early-Bird Scholarship is not available for applicants applying through rolling admission.

For students starting their studies before 31 December 2023:
The Early Bird discount covers 3 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. I.e., the student pays 3 000 euros tuition fee for the first study year.

For students starting their studies after 1 January 2024:
The Early Bird discount covers 2 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. I.e., the student pays 5 000 euros tuition fee for the first study year.

For students starting their studies after 1 August 2025:
The Early Bird discount covers 2 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. I.e., the student pays 6 000 euros tuition fee for the first study year.

For students starting their studies after 1 August 2026:
The Early Bird discount covers 2 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. I.e., the student pays 8 000 euros tuition fee for the first study year.

For students starting their studies after 1 August 2027:
The Early Bird discount covers 1 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. I.e., the student pays 9 000 euros tuition fee for the first study year.

First year scholarship for Master’s Degree:

For students starting their studies before 1 August 2027:
The Early Bird discount covers 2 000 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee.

For students starting their studies after 1 August 2027:
The Early Bird discount covers 1 200 euros of the first year tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee.

It is only possible to receive the scholarship during the standard study period of 3,5 academic years in the bachelor’s degrees.

Studies started before 1 August 2025

It is possible to receive both mentioned scholarships in the same year, once during the studies.

The scholarship rewarding for good progress in the studies:

The scholarship provides a discount of 3 000 euros to the tuition fee from their second year onward, provided that they accomplish a minimum of 55 credits per academic year on Bachelor level. The credits are counted cumulatively, i.e. 55 credits after the first year, 110 credits after the second year etc.

The studies affecting the following year’s scholarship must be completed within the previous academic year (between 1.8. – 31.7.). All the credits must be marked in PAKKI by 31 August / 8 January depending on the deadline of the tuition fee payment. Studies completed outside your current study right will not be considered as part of the completed studies.

The eligibility for the scholarship is checked for all fee-paying students without a separate application. In case the scholarship is not granted, the student will receive instructions on paying the remaining tuition fee by email.

The scholarship based on Finnish language

It is possible to apply for a scholarship based on a Finnish language level test completed during the studies. The accepted test is the National certificate of language proficiency (YKI), intermediate level or higher. In case the student has passed the test earlier, the student must pass a higher level to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is worth 3 000 euros and it is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. The student can only receive the scholarship based on Finnish language once during their studies.

The scholarship based on the Finnish language skills must be applied separately at the same time with paying the tuition fee (1 – 15 August / 1 – 15 December). The YKI certificate must be attached to the application.

The scholarship cannot therefore be awarded on the basis of a lower level test.

The amount of the scholarship depends on the level of the completed language test (YKI).

• Basic level: 500 euros (proficiency level 1 and 2)
• Intermediate level: 1 000 euros (proficiency level 3 and 4)
• Advanced level: 1 500 euros (proficiency level 5 and 6)

The scholarship based on the Finnish language skills must be applied separately at the same time with paying the tuition fee (1 – 15 August / 1 – 15 December). The YKI certificate and the test assessment scale must be attached to the application. Late applications will be considered for the following year’s tuition fee. If a student no longer has tuition fees to be paid, they are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

The Early Bird scholarship or other scholarships are not available for KAMK Pathway applicants. Tuition Fee is non-refundable.

Decision on the Right to Study and Related Terms and Conditions
This Decision applies to students admitted on or after 7 September 2026.

The Decision on the Right to Study and Related Terms and Conditions approved by the KAMK Rector applies to students at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences and defines the rights and obligations of the student and other matters associated with the completion of studies at KAMK.

This Decision applies to all KAMK Students who are obliged to pay tuition fees. This Decision enters into force when the Student has accepted the study place offered by KAMK.

KAMK Student Agreement
This Agreement applies to students admitted on or before 6 September 2026.

The Student Agreement applies to tuition fees and scholarships at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences and defines the rights and obligations of the student and the terms under which the students may receive a scholarship for their studies.

This Agreement applies to all KAMK students who are obliged to pay tuition fees for all KAMK’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. This student agreement enters into force after the student has accepted the study place at KAMK. Read more

Tuition fees are refunded only if a residence permit is denied or has not been granted by the end of the first two semesters after the start of the study right. After the first two semesters, the Student is not entitled to a tuition fee refund.

The paid tuition fee will not be refunded

• if the Student has obtained a residence permit and decides to resign from their studies.
• if Student is enrolled in blended (part-time) or fully online degree programme.
• for any attendance semesters during which the Student has pursued studies, either as
  independent study or through on-campus attendance

If independent studies are not provided for the degree programme, the tuition fee may be refunded for the entire academic year, provided that all other refund conditions are met.

The refund of tuition fees is subject to the following conditions:

• the Student has started the application process for a residence permit within 14 days of being granted a study place (applies to student admitted on or before 6 September 2026) 
• the Student has started the application process for a residence permit within 30 days of being granted a study place (applies to student admitted on or after 7 Sebtember 2026)
• the Student has paid the tuition fee in accordance with the guidelines,
• the Student has not withdrawn their residence permit application or interfered with the process (e.g., by knowingly providing false information), leading to a negative decision or suspension by the Immigration Service, and
• the Student has applied for a refund of the tuition fee by the deadline by the last day of their first two semesters (31.7. or 31.12.).

Students seeking a tuition fee refund must send a written application by e-mail to studyservices(at)kamk.fi by applicable deadline and attach all required supportin documents. Supporting documents may include a negative residence permit decision from the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) or, if the residence permit application is still pending, evidence that application remains under processing, such as an Enter Finland confirmation, embassy appointment confirmation, or waiting list confirmation.

Study Services will decide on the tuition fee refund based on the written application by e-mail and supporting documents.

If the Student obtains a residence permit after the refund and wishes to continue their studies at KAMK, they will have to pay the remaining tuition fee and apply for restoring the study rights.

A processing fee of 250 EUR will be deducted from the refunded tuition fee.

If a Student has paid too much tuition fee, the excess amount will be refunded in full to the Student’s Finnish bank account without a handling fee. The payment will not be refunded to a foreign bank account. If the excess amount is small, less than €30, it will not be refunded.

In addition to the tuition fee, Migri requires student to have sufficient funds in their bank account to cover living expenses in Finland before applying for a residence permit. At the time of application, you must have the amount specified by the Immigration Service in your bank account, and you must have sufficient funds available during your stay in Finland. We strongly encourage our students to have the required funds at their disposal in full and not to rely on finding part-time work in Finland.

The average monthly living expenses for a student living in Finland are approximately 800 – 1000 euros. This may vary depending on personal circumstances.

Required Funds

There is no tuition fee for citizens of Finland, the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, or citizens of Switzerland.

Non-EU/EEA students can be exempted from the tuition fee, if they have one of the following conditions:

The fee is not charged if the student studies in a degree programme taught in Finnish language. Neither is the fee charged for persons who, under the Aliens Act:

• have a European Union Blue Card
• have a permanent residence permit
• have a continuous residence permit for purposes other than studies*
• are under temporary protection
• have a long-term resident’s European Union residence permit issued to third-country nationals
• have an EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland.

*Please note that in the following cases the tuition fee is charged:

• If your first residence permit in Finland was granted for the purpose of studying, you are required to pay tuition fees, even if you later obtained a continuous residence permit (type A) on other grounds.
• If you have a continuous residence permit (type A) based on family ties, and your family member originally came to Finland on a residence permit granted for studying, you are also required to pay tuition fees.

However, if your continuous residence permit (type A) is based on family ties in Finland, and your family member is a Finnish citizen or is staying in Finland with a permanent residence permit, you will be exempted from tuition fees.

Students are required to keep Study Services informed of their residence permit status. If a student does not receive their residence permit in time, they must notify Study Services by the semester registration deadlines (15 December / 15 August).

Students whose status changes to exempt them from tuition fees must submit proof of their exempting residence permit to Study Services immediately upon receiving it and no later than the end of the semester registration period (15 December / 15 August). If the permit has not been received by that date, the tuition fee for the semester must be paid.
