Practical Training in the Bachelor's Degree in Sports and Leisure Management

The aim of practical to training is to provide an opportunity for students to get to know the most important tasks of the their field of study under supervision and to apply their knowledge and skills in working life.

The aim of the practical training period is to support

  • development of knowledge
  • the development of practical skills required at work
  • the development of personal skills.


From an employer’s point of view, practical training provides an excellent basis for future recruitment activities. The trainee will also bring new opinions and knowledge to the work place and will also help to spread the workload.

Timing and Length of the Practical Training Period

Practical training forms an essential part of all University of Applied Sciences degrees. The practical training in the Sports and Leisure Management programme is divided into two parts of 12 credits (= two months) and 18 credits (= three months). The periods take place during the second and fourth study year. Before starting the second part of the practical training, the first part (12 cr) must be completed and accredited in ASIO.

Practical Training Place and Duties

Practical training can be accomplished either at home or abroad in a working environment relevant to the field of studies. Practical training can take place in companies, public organisations or other suitable organisations such as clubs and associations.

Practical training is always supervised. Practical training supervision is part of the university’s student supervision process that is ongoing for all students during the whole of their studies at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences. The aim of practical training supervision is to advance and support students’ learning and professional development.
