The Kajaani University of Applied Science’s Game Development major is Finland’s broadest degree in the field. The studies provide you with the excellent professional skills you need for developing games. The major’s basic studies provide a strong foundation for project work, enterprise and business, languages and communication well as general skills in various aspects of game development. Professional studies are predominantly implemented through real work-based game industry projects. As you study to become a game industry professional at KAMK, you can choose between using your expertise in development teams or in various game and software development training, design and development tasks. During the degree, you will design and publish your own commercial game applications in collaboration with other students.
During the degree, it is possible to specialize in game programming, game graphics, or game production. You will also acquire the ability to set up your own business and you can test your business venture in the Kajak Games Cooperative while studying. Many graduates of our game industry degree have started their own businesses or have been employed by Finnish and foreign game production companies such as Supercell, Ubisoft, Frozenbyte, Remedy, Wooga, Fingersoft and Rovio.
In practice, second-year studies are mainly conducted in English and for those interested in international activity, KAMK offers a wealth of options. The game industry is predominantly international, and our degree offers students opportunities to experience an international atmosphere and engage with international students of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
The students of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences have gained recognition both nationally and internationally in various competitions and events. Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is the only Sony PlayStation First Academic Partner in Finland. Thus, game degree students at KAMK have the unique opportunity to develop games using the PlayStation 4 platform during their studies.
