At the start of the Tourism degree, students will focus on gaining basic skills and knowledge, after which they will apply their acquired learning in practice. Through your studies, you will acquire comprehensive customer-oriented product development and marketing competences, and you will become familiar with different cultures for the purposes of international tourism. You will also learn to develop and deliver high-quality experiences for tourists and to manage tourism businesses with an entrepreneurial attitude. The final stages of your studies will utilise your acquired competences in practice, and in the development of different types of smart solutions.
During the duration of the studies, students will carry out different kinds of projects in close collaboration with local companies and organisations. Several tourism destinations will also be explored in person, and through academic study, during the program. It should be noted that in this degree, students spend a significant amount of time outside the classroom, outdoors and in natural surroundings, experiencing tourism services and activities first hand.
The main focal areas of the degree are nature activities, cultural perspectives and recreational tourism.
The theme throughout the studies is innovative creativity, responsible and sustainable tourism enterprise development, internationality and personal development.

The degree includes intensive cooperation on a variety of work-based learning assignments, each conducted with actors and businesses operating in the tourism sector.
Application for the English-taught degree programmes in Finnish higher education institutions are submitted online through the joint application system at Studyinfo during the application period. Application period for studies starting in autumn 2020 are as follows:
1) Apply based on entrance exam results: 8 - 22 January 2020.
2) Apply based on SAT test result: 31 March - 15 April 2020
Eligible applicants will be invited to take the entrance exam. The exam will be arranged both in Kajaani and in specified countries abroad. It is also possible to apply based on a SAT test result.
Here at KAMK, you can study activity tourism, which is the only educational offering of this type in Finland. Activity tourism involves experiential activities in natural environments, as well as wellbeing tourism combined with the accommodation and catering business. Our new and innovative approach called ActivityLab combines real work-life project work and studies. Through our ActivityLab, students can apply their new knowledge in practice, create networks, and build the skills required in working life while being part of a project group.
Participating in student exchange and completing part of the studies in one of our partner universities makes it possible to broaden the specialization of your studies. It is also possible to choose a double degree with our partner universities. The studies include 5 months of practical training that also gives you an excellent opportunity to strengthen your skills in different areas for a desired career.

During your studies, you will learn to develop and deliver high-quality experiences for tourism and to manage tourism businesses with an entrepreneurial attitude. The Bachelors of Hospitality Management with a focus on Tourism will have the skills to work in tourism development, sales, marketing and production tasks, tourism management, and as independent entrepreneurs. The job titles can be for example Sales Coordinator, Customer Service Manager, Team Leader and Event Coordinator.
The entrance examination places emphasis on aptitude for studying the field, motivation, English language and mathematical/logical thinking. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must pass each section of the examination.
KAMK accepts an entrance examination taken in the same entrance exam group at another university of applied sciences.

Co-operating degree programmes (Finnips)
The tuition fee at KAMK is 6 000 euros per academic year. The students, who accept their study place within 14 days from the notice of admission, get a 50% discount off the tuition fee as an early bird scholarship. Later on in the studies, the scholarship rewards for study progress, ie. the students who complete a minimum of 55 credits per academic year, get a 50% discount off the tuition fee. In addition, KAMK offers an additional scholarship for those, who pass a national language test in Finnish during their studies. This scholarship is available once during the studies and offers the students the possibility to study a year for free - providing that they get both scholarships (55 credits + Finnish language) the same year.
The scholarships are always used directly to reduce the tuition fee. Scholarships are available by application only. The first year fee is paid when accepting the study place, and later on, it is paid in May yearly. The scholarship applies only to the tuition-fee paying students. Read more about tuition fees
In addition to the tuition fee, the students must pay for their study materials and for their own living costs. The average monthly living expenses for a student living in Finland are approximately 700 – 900 euros. This may vary depending on personal circumstances. When applying for a residence permit in Finland, non-EU/EEA nationals need to demonstrate that they have at least 560 euros per month at their disposal – in addition to the tuition fee.
