Information for New Students

Welcome to study at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences! Your studies in Kajaani will start with orientation on Tuesday, 25 August at 9:00 am. During the orientation week you will get familiar with the campus, your group, the teachers and the services we offer to support your success in the studies. The first courses will also start during the orientation week.

**Due to the pandemic and prolonged residence permit process, KAMK offers the possibility to start the studies online in case you are not able to join your study group in time. Please see "Starting the Studies" below.

For those travelling to Finland from abroad, please note that you might have to stay in quarantine before joining the studies. See further instructions:

If you got the study place in the Master's degree, read more here.

Confirming the Study Place

Confirming the Study Place

To confirm the offered place, you must accept the study place and enroll by 17 July 2020, 3:00 p.m online at Studyinfo.  If we do not receive your confirmation by the given deadline, you will lose the offered study place. The confirmation is binding.

Note that you can only confirm one study place per academic term. This means that if you have been accepted to several study programmes in one application or in several applications, you need to choose which place you wish to confirm. When you have confirmed a study place, all other study programmes that you have applied to and that begin during the same academic term will be cancelled automatically.

Read more about the one study place per term provision.

The students also must enroll for the academic year at the same time when confirming the study place at studyinfo.fi. Those subject to tuition fee, must pay the fee before they are able to enroll.

Postponing the Start of Studies
As a first year student, it is possible to enroll as non-attending for the first study year (one semester / full year) only for the following reasons:
• completion of military service / civilian service in Finland,
• your own illness or
• maternity / paternity / parental leave.

A certificate must be submitted to the Study Office to prove the reason for absence.
Paying the Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens at KAMK is 6 000 euros per academic year (both Bachelor's degrees and Master's degrees). There is no tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens or exchange students. The payment for the first year is done at the same time when accepted student confirms his/her study place at KAMK. It is not possible to pay in installments.

An Early Bird -scholarship is introduced for the applications in spring 2020. Students may take advantage of the early bird scholarship by accepting their study place offer within two weeks after receiving the letter of acceptance. The early bird scholarship covers 50% to the tuition fee and is directly used to reduce the tuition fee, ie. the student pays 3 000 euros as the tuition fee.

The full payment is made at once on KAMK online shop. The methods of payment available are Visa card, Mastercard or Finnish online banks. It is unfortunately not possible to pay in installments.

After successful payment, a receipt will be delivered by email and the condition for the enrolment will be removed. The receipt can be attached to the residence permit application.

The tuition fee for the second year and onwards is paid by 31 May yearly. In addition to the tuition fee, the student must have a minimum of 6720 euros per year at their disposal (Requirement in order to obtain a residence permit).

Original Certificates
Please be prepared to present your original school certificates that you used applying for admission (in national language) at the beginning of the studies. The copies will be compared to the original certificates. If there are discrepancies between the original certificates and the copies submitted the UAS has the right to cancel the study place of the selected student if the correct information on the original certificate does not consequently entitle the student to a study place at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

Admission to the University of Applied Sciences is therefore conditional until certificates have been checked and successfully compared with the original certificates.

Preparing for the Studies in Finland

Due to the corona restrictions related to international mobility, we are preparing to offer first year courses remotely, if necessary, for the autumn semester if entry to Finland for foreign students is delayed. Further details will be sent to the students directly.
