Entry Requirements to Bachelor's Degrees

You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme if you have completed:

  • foreign qualification that provides eligibility for higher education studies in the country in question
  • the Finnish general upper secondary school syllabus and/or the matriculation examination;
  • an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; a European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma; Reifeprüfung (RP) Diploma;
  • a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification with a scope of 120 credit units or 180 credit points, or a comparable previous Finnish vocational qualification with a minimum scope of 80 credit units;
  • a Finnish post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma;
  • a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification or a further or specialist vocational qualifi-cation as a competence-based qualification, or a comparable previous qualification

In order to prove their eligibility, applicants with a non-Finnish qualification certificate must submit a copy of the final certificate to the admissions office of the university of applied sciences marked as the first choice on their application form, which will then decide on each applicant’s eligibility for all UAS programmes on the application.

The admission is conditional until the original school certificates have been checked in the beginning of the studies.

Language Skills Requirement

Applicants are required to have good oral and written skills in English. The English language skills are tested in the entrance examination.

Selection of new Students

The student selection to English-taught Bachelor's and Master's degrees at KAMK is made on the basis of the examination result.

See more information on the selection process in joint application at Studyinfo: How to apply for Bachelor's  or How to apply for Master's.

Selection between applicants with equal admission points
In case there is a tie in admission points, the applicants will be ranked on the basis of the order of preference of the options indicated by the applicant.

If these criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, a university of applied sciences may choose to apply one of the following criteria by programme choice:

A) the applicants will be automatically ranked by lots drawn by a computer system;
B) all of the equally ranked applicants will be admitted;
C) none of the equally ranked applicants will be admitted.
Applying through discretionary admission

Each university of applied sciences decides on a discretionary applicant’s possibility to apply. Kajaani University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in the English-taught Bachelor's Degrees.

Anyone applying through discretionary admission is required to submit copies of the certificates that he or she wishes to invoke to the admissions office of each university of applied sciences to which he or she is applying. The copies must arrive at the admissions offices according to the deadlines for submitting appendices.

Discretionary applicants are included in the student selection process in the same way as other eligible applicants. Discretion only concerns an applicant’s eligibility to apply.
