LEARNING PROJECT PROCESS

1. Preparations
2. Project planning and organisation
3. Launching a project
4. Implementation of project
5. Concluding of project

1. Preparations
Learning projects are launched in one of two ways:
a. Ready-made project ‘blanks’ are defined beforehand together with the students, the person in charge of project activity, and the representatives of enterprises.

b. The customer wants to have certain type of project enterprise-specifically, which means that the project proposal is submitted either to the Research and Development Unit or to the learning enterprise Kajability.

2. Project planning and organisation
Once a project agreement has been approved, the person in charge of the project seeks out a teacher to supervise the students. The supervising teacher chooses the doers for the project. A commission agreement is made concerning the project.

The project manager draws up a project plan together with the project group. The spheres of responsibilities and division of tasks are noted in the project plan. The supervising teacher checks the project plan and a project manager makes the necessary changes.

In addition to the objectives of the project, individual learning objectives are specified for each project group member. The students are also defined the theory related to the project and each student becomes acquainted with it during the project. The project group and the teacher also agree on how to combine theory and practice (e.g. essays, study groups). Also the assessment criteria of the learning project are agreed upon together with the teacher and the project group.

3. Launching a project
The project launching meetings deals with and approves the project plan and the organisation of the project, steering of the project are dealt with, the members of the Steering Group are appointed, the objectives and a schedule are set, the responsibilities and duties of the project staff and project Follow-up are agreed upon. The launching meeting is attended by the supervising teacher, a person representing the enterprise and the project manager.

4. Implementation of project
The project manager sets the implementation of the project into motion in accordance with the project plan. The project manager sees to it that the project will be completed within the timetable and the objectives set for it. The functions include both the learning objectives and the project objectives.

5. Concluding of project
The results of the project are presented and the project is handed over to the party commissioning it. the party commissioning the project is asked for feedback on the realisation of the project (e.g. by filling in an assessment/evaluation form).

The project manager, project group and the Steering Group of the project, the teacher and the representative of the enterprise assess/evaluate the implementation of the project at the evaluation/assessment meeting at which time the realisation of the objectives of the project, the successes of the project, and the lessons learned will be examined.

In addition to the assessment/evaluation of the project, each student will assess/evaluate his own learning. The supervising teacher will be presented with the assessments/evaluations and other agreed documents before the students are credited for their efforts.

Once the project has ended, the project manager draws up a final report on the project’s results together with the project group. The contents of the original project plan, any changes made to it, and the reasons for and the consequences of changes will be recorded in the final report. In the final report of the project compares the objectives of the project to what has actualised over the duration of the project. The project group examines the successes and problems of the project in a realistic manner.

The project’s supervising teacher goes through the final report and possible corrections are then made to the report. The last meeting of the Steering Group deals with the final report and implements changes/additions as necessary and the final report it then approved. The project manager informs other students and teachers of the results of the project. The necessary documentation is collected in the project file, which is then given to the supervising teacher.
