The board of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Oy (KAMK) has appointed Doctor of Philosophy Matti Sarén, aged 41 and from Kajaani, as Kajaani University of Applied Sciences’ new CEO/President. He will take up his post at the beginning of March when Turo Kilpeläinen becomes the President/CEO of Lahti University of Applied Sciences.
The Chair of the KAMK board, Aki Räisänen, feels that the board has made the right decision.
“We considered several specialist candidates and we gained a professional committed to developing Kainuu who has excellent business connections and the expertise to continue the way forward in a steady financial situation, thanks to Turo Kilpeläinen leading KAMK to the top of the league tables for several years running”, Räisänen commented.
Matti Sarén has a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in computational material physics from Helsinki University and an eMBA degree from Oulu University. He has previously worked at Metso Automation Oy and Bittium Biosignals Oy, and held the post of Vice Rector for Cooperation Affairs at Oulu University. He has also established several technology companies.
Sarén has actively built cooperation between educational institutions and business as well as student-oriented entrepreneurial and networking operations.
“I have followed KAMK’s excellent and sustainable development with pleasure. Such success is based on its competent and enthusiastic staff and motivated students. It is my job to support this ongoing development and to help our organisation to train sorely needed experts for the future. Here at KAMK, we all have an extremely significant and responsible role in promoting the region’s pull factors and I am happy that I can participate in this work”, states Matti Sarén.
