Kajaani University of Applied Sciences to have new President/CEO

Turo Kilpeläinen, the President/CEO of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences since 2010, will start work as the President/CEO of Lahti University of Applied Sciences, an organisation that is twice the size, from the beginning of March 2018.

The Board of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Oy, which is owned by the City of Kajaani, will immediately start the recruitment process to fill the post of president/CEO. This process of change will be smooth and flexible, with Turo Kilpeläinen remaining in Kajaani until the end of February to provide induction for the new president/CEO in the tasks that the post entails.

According to the Chairman of the Board of KAMK Oy, Aki Räisänen, this change is part of regular career cycles and it has the complete understanding and support of the Board.

- Turo Kilpeläinen has developed KAMK and the region extensively with an open mind in cooperation with the Board, staff, and students. Kajaani University of Applied Sciences has its own genuine profile and is sustainably one of the best universities in Finland with its balanced finances and operations.

- The mandate of the president/CEO of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, the leading education provider in Kainuu, is both challenging and respected. It is hoped that the new president/CEO will continue to implement the reforms that are currently underway and to strengthen KAMK’s ties with working life. We want to be the frontrunners in the future too, emphasises Räisänen.

President/CEO Kilpeläinen, who will relinquish his post in the spring, wishes to thank the City of Kajaani, partners in cooperation, and members of staff for the past 11 years at KAMK, where he has not only been a student, but also a senior lecturer and finally, in the role of president/CEO.

- Not only have people in Kajaani dared to look to the future, they have also worked to achieve specific objectives. He stresses that Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is doing well despite the structural, operational and financial changes brought about by the national university of applied sciences reform.
