Kajaani University of Applied Sciences has been shortlisted for an award in the “Best Programme for Data Centre Training and Professional Development” category in the Datacloud Awards 2018.

The award ceremony will be held in Monaco on 12th of June. Datacloud Awards 2018 represents and celebrates new and diverse innovations and achievements in the data centre industry. The Awards include 16 categories evaluated by an international panel of expert judges.

Kajaani University of Applied Sciences delivers training for the data centre industry in close co-operation with the companies IBM and CSC, providing students with a unique data centre learning environment and a hands-on approach to learning.

For several years running, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences has been developing traditional system expert training to better match the broad range of work opportunities in the data centre industry, from facility solutions to service offerings.

In cooperation with CSC, Funet, as well as local and national companies, an ecosystem combining the latest knowledge and a state-of-the-art operational environment and the application of practical know-how, has been constructed. This ecosystem enables rapid experimentation and the use of production level learning and devel-opment environments to pilot services and applications before they are manufactured commercially.

The study environment provided by the KAMK Datacentre Solutions training course is unique in Europe. The participating students have their very own data centre to manage and maintain. A Bull supercomputer has also been acquired for the university of applied sciences, providing opportunities as it is adopted for use, for developing and reinforcing the students' systems expertise, and to create service offerings for external customers. The supercomputer has already attracted interest on a national scale among companies involved in datacentre operations.

Kajaani University of Applied Sciences participated in the Datacloud Awards 2018 for the first time and was shortlisted in the education and professional development category: a welcome indication of excellent and sustainable work. In the future, educational and enterprise-based solutions will be built on this expertise.
